A 6-year-old girl has been found dead inside a mosque located at New Road, Kurmi Mashi by Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass, Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna State.
The young girl is believed to have been raped to death by yet-to-be-identified persons.
Confirming the sad incident, the Spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, ASP Muhammed Jalige, said the body was discovered on Friday, June 26, 2020.
ASP Muhammed Jalige said the community members called men of the Kurmi Mashi police division to make a report after seeing the dead body at about 3.20 pm which is close to the time they were supposed to converge for their Friday prayers.
Jalige said no arrest has been made but that the police is investigating the matter.
“Though no arrest has been made in connection to the crime, but police detectives attached to the Kurmi Mashi division of the Command have launched an investigation to unravel the misery.
Yes, the case was reported at Kurmi Mashi division on Friday. Our men in that division received a call from the people in the community in Kurmi Mashi that they saw a dead body lying in the mosque.
With the lockdown, they have not been opening mosques except for Friday prayers. They discovered the dead body around 3:20 pm close to prayer time.
An investigation into the matter has commenced. No arrest made so far. But police detectives attached to Kurmi Mashi are seriously on the issue.”
FG To Shut Third Mainland Bridge For Six Months
The Federal Government is set to shut the Third Mainland Bridge for six months starting from Friday, July 24.
This was confirmed by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola.
According to him, consultations are ongoing for another phase of repair works to begin on the 11.8km bridge.
Popoola explained that the work will commence on the outward mainland section of the bridge, and the ministry is working with relevant agencies to perfect traffic during the period.
The bridge has gone through a series of repair works and was last shut in August 2018 for a three-day investigative maintenance check.
There have also been reports of some worn-out expansion joints on the structure, raising concerns over the state of the bridge.
This development will force motorists in Lagos who ply the bridge to begin making arrangements for alternative routes.

Justifying the criteria used in arriving at its decision, Amb. Cletus Akhimien, Executive Director COA Media Group said the organisation arrived at its conclusion through its over 20 thousand members who sent in opinions through an online platform which is verifiable.
However stated that the aim of the project is to raise the awareness and participation of Plateau people in the socio-economic and political development of the state through the Local Govt system..
‘We launched a platform which allowed all our twenty thousand members to determine the top five CHAIRMEN in Plateau State. They were accessed based on five prioritised areas which includes Infrastructure, Accessibility, Youth Engagements, Security and prompt response in tackling the spread of Covid-19 pandemic” he stated.
The COA Media Group added that the evaluation exercise will be done twice yearly. The organisation will subsequently commence the assessment of all the elected officials.

3Million Candidates Apply For 400,000 N-Power Jobs
3 million Plus applicants have enrolled for about 400,000 in The Federal Government’s N-Power programme.
Candidates applied for the programme through the online portal of the N-Power scheme which was opened for applications on June 26, 2020.
N-Power is one of the National Social Investment Programmes of the Federal Government.
Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. It was said on Friday that it was carrying out the transitioning of independent monitors recruited to monitor Batch A and B of the N-Power programme as well as other NSIPs.
The Federal Government, through the N-Power office, had stated that it would absorb 400,000 applicants as Batch C beneficiaries.
Humanitarian ministry’s Deputy Director, Information, Rhoda Iliya, said,
“Enrolment of beneficiaries for N-power Batch C commenced on June 26, 2020. They received over three million applications since the portal opened.”
“Application process will be concluded as soon as possible to provide additional Nigerian youths access to the programme.”
It was inaugurated by the government in 2016. The mandate was to lift citizens out of poverty through a number of social interventions.
